DIRECTIONS:
Hanging Planter:
Cut six 6ft long pieces of yarn.Gather all six pieces of yarn and fold them in half.
Tie an overhand knot to make a loop on the folded end.
Take three of the pieces and measure 15" from the knot and tie an overhand knot.
Repeat until there are 4 groups with 3 strands of yarn each.
Arrange the strands so they are side by side on your work surface.
Take one piece of yarn from one group and one from the next group over and make a knot 2 1/2" down from the previous knot.
Connect one of the remaining 2 strands of yarn from each group and match to their neighboring group with three strands.
Repeat connecting the final groups together so that there are 4 new knots and 4 loose strands of yarn.
Gather all 12 strands of yarn together. Cut. A new piece of yarn 18" long and tie a double knot around the bundle of yarn about 2" below the last set of knots.
Using the new piece of yarn, create a series of half hitch knots around the 12 strands of yarn.
To make a half hitch knot, wrap the yarn around the bundle of yarn and pass the end through the loop formed at the beginning of the yarn. Pull the yarn tight, sliding the knot up to meet the previous knot.
Continue until the knotted section reaches 2" long.
Trim the tassel ends even to desired length.
Macramé pot:
Begin by cutting two pieces of yarn about 12" in length. Adjust length for larger pots - add at least 6" to the circumference of the pot.Knot the 2 pieces of yarn together at each end. Tape ends to your work surface. This will be your foundation yarn.
Cut at least 9 pieces of yarn about 18" in length.
Create a reverse lark's head knot by folding each 18" piece of yarn in half and slipping the loop under the foundation yarn. Pass the two ends of the folded yarn through the loop and pull to tighten.
Repeat until all 9 pieces are attached. There are now 18 pieces of yarn extending from the foundation yarn.
Starting with the piece of yarn farthest on the left, create a vertical half hitch knot by wrapping the yarn on the left (looping yarn) around the next piece of yarn to its right (support yarn). Create a loop by bringing it under the support yarn and back over itself. Repeat to create a second half hitch knot on the same piece of yarn.
Continue making 2 half hitch knots on each of the next 7 yarns to the right. Use the same yarn as the looping yarn. For each knot, start where the previous knot ended in order to create the diagonal effect.
Add a second row of half hitch knots in the same manner, adding a set of knots to the first looping yarn which is now in the center.
Repeat process, working right to left to create knots on the remaining 9 pieces of yarn.
Double knot the last looping yarn from each side together so they lay flat.
Trim excess yarn at the bottom so there is about 1/2" of excess yarn; using fingertips or a toothpick, rough up the ends of the yarn to create a fringe.
One set finished, repeat pattern to add additional sets until the macrame reaches the circumference of the pot.
Wrap macrame around pot and tie ends to secure in place.
