SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Watercolor paper
- Two 1" wood slats
- Watercolor paint
- Paintbrush & water
- Letter stickers
- Quote
- Saw
- Wood stain
- Paper towels
- Gloves
- Hot glue gun/glue gun sticks
- Jute cord
- Measuring tape
DIRECTIONS:
- Place the letters on the watercolor paper in your desired quote.
- Make sure to press the letters firmly so they are secure and water can't seep under the stickers.
- Apply an abstract watercolor design to the watercolor paper. Blot away any excess water when painting over the letter with a paper towel, its best to not over saturate the stickers.
- Allow the paint to dry and remove the letters.
- While the paint is drying measure the slats to the desired length. Ours are 1/2" wider than the paper to leave 1/4" on either side. Cut the slats to length with a hand saw. You will need four cut pieces, two for the top and two for the bottom.
- Stain the wood with wood stain using paper towels to wipe off any excess. (Use gloves when applying stain).
- Once the artwork and stain is dry hot glue the slats to the front and back of the paper at the top and bottom, leaving 1/4" overhang on either side.
- Cut a piece of jute cord to the desired length of your hanger and tie a knot on either end. Flip the artwork over and hot glue the knots to the back of the slat about 3-4" in from either end.
JOANN HACKS:
- Limit water on stickers, over-saturation can cause stickers to bubble or paint to bleed under.
- If your paint does bleed under the sticker in some places you can always touch it up with some white paint.
- Try to not let the colors be too light where the letters are, you need contrast so the white letters are visible.
